  • DAY 1 –  USA-BARCELONA (outbound flight)
  • DAY 2 – BARCELONA, SPAIN –Once we arrive in Barcelona, we will show you some of the sights close to where we will be staying for the evening. We’ll introduce you to some great places to get tapas (small savory dishes, snacks or appetizers of Spanish cuisine).   [Hotel: Barcelona]
  • DAY 3 –  BARCELONA-MADRID – We will spend the morning exploring some of the works of Antoni Gaudi.  Antoni Gaudí i Cornet was a Catalan architect known as the greatest exponent of Catalan Modernism. Gaudí’s works have a highly individualized, sui generis style. Most are located in Barcelona, including Park Guell, Casa Battlo, Casa Mila and his main work, the church of the Sagrada Família.  In the evening we will take a 3-hour train ride to Madrid [Hotel: Madrid]
  • DAY 4 – MADRID-GRANADA – Today you will have the option to join a city tour of the Spanish capital of Madrid with highlights including the Royal Palace (the royal family’s official residence), Madrid’s most renowned square (Puerta del Sol), the most famous street in Madrid (Gran Via), the beautiful El Retiro Park, Plaza de Cibeles, Puerta de Alcala, and more.  In the evening we will take a 3.5 hour train to the city of Granada.   [Hotel: Granada]
  • DAY 5 – GRANADA-RONDA – Today, we will see the gem of Granada – the Alhambra.  The “Red One” is a palace and fortress complex that was originally constructed as a small fortress in 889 CE on the remains of Roman fortifications.  It was largely ignored until its ruins were rebuilt in the mid-13th century by the Nasrid Al-Ahmar of the Emirate of Granada.  The current palace and walls have many beautiful, intricate details. It was converted into a royal palace in 1333, then in 1492, the site became the Royal Court of Ferdinand and Isabella (where Christopher Columbus received royal endorsement for his expedition).  You will have some time to explore the city of Granada at night before we will take a 2 hour bus ride to the fascinating town of Ronda.   [Hotel: Ronda]
  • DAY 6 – RONDA– GIBRALTAR – Best-known for its spectacular setting atop a deep gorge spanned by a stone bridge, Ronda has a rich cultural and literary tradition, and is the home of modern bullfighting.  We will spend the morning exploring the town and will take the 95 minute train ride to Algeciras where we will pick up our tour of the British overseas territory – Gibraltar.  The Rock of Gibraltar is a monolithic limestone promontory located in the territory of Gibraltar, near the southwestern tip of Europe on the Iberian Peninsula.[3] It is 1,398 feet high. Most of the Rock’s upper area is covered by a nature reserve, which is home to around 300 Barbary macaques. These macaques, as well as a network of tunnels. [Hotel: Gibraltar]
  • DAY 7 – GIBRALTAR-LISBON We take a 90 minute flight from Algeciras to Lisbon.  When we arrive, we will explore the beautiful capital city of Portugal. From imposing São Jorge Castle, with a view encompassing the old city’s pastel-colored buildings, Tagus Estuary and Ponte 25 de Abril suspension bridge. Nearby, the National Azulejo Museum displays 5 centuries of decorative ceramic tiles. Just outside Lisbon is a string of Atlantic beaches, from Cascais to Estoril.   [Hotel: Lisbon]
  • DAY 8 – LISBON, SINTRA – We will travel around 20 miles outside of Lisbon to the area of Sintra.  We will tour the Palace of Pena high up in the hills with amazing views and you will have time to explore the grounds.  We will also visit the Tower of Belem, a 16th-century fortification that served as a point of embarkation and disembarkation for Portuguese explorers and as a ceremonial gateway to Lisbon. It was built during the height of the Portuguese Renaissance, and is a prominent example of the Portuguese Manueline style, but also incorporates hints of other architectural styles.   The structure was built from lioz limestone and is composed of a bastion and a 98 foot, four-story tower.  You will have some free time in the evening in Lisbon [Hotel: Lisbon, Portugal]
  • DAY 9 – LISBON- PORTOWe will take our journey north to the city of Porto.  Porto, the second largest city in Portugal, is a coastal city in the northwest known for its stately bridges and port wine production. In the medieval riverside district, narrow cobbled streets wind past merchants’ houses and cafes. São Francisco Church is known for its lavish baroque interior with ornate gilded carvings. You will love this beautiful city and all it has to offer. [Hotel: Porto, Portugal]
  • DAY 10 – PORTO- BARCELONA – We will travel by plane (approximately 2 hours) from Porto back to Barcelona.  We will have the rest of the day to pick up where we left off, enjoy the markets and have some free time in Barcelona [Hotel: Barcelona, Spain]
