This tour is a fast-paced adventure showing you the very best that Scandinavia has to offer!  Explore castles, museums, and beautiful Norwegian Fjords as we visit the Scandinavian capitals of Oslo, Copenhagen. and Stockholm.  The journey will take you through Norway, Denmark, and Sweden by plane, train, boat, and bus. 

Day 1 –  USA (flight to Oslo)

Day 2 – Today we explore the city of Oslo.  You can tour the Oslo Art Museum and scale the sloped roof of the Oslo Opera House.  We will take a walk through Vigeland Park (the largest sculpture park in the world) consisting of 212 bronze and granite statues built between 1939-1949 and designed by Gustav Vigeland.

Day 3 – Today we continue our journey in Oslo.  You will have free time to choose among a variety of things to do in the Norwegian capital.  Visit Holmenkollbakken, the landmark ski jump with amazing city views.  Explore Viking Ship Museum, which has a display of 3 wooden, 9th-century Viking ships.  Take a guided tour of det Norske Kongehus, the Norwegian Royal Palace, a 19th-century residence of the King & Queen of Norway.

Day 4 –  Oslo-Bergen Scenic Train – Norway in a Nutshell is the most popular scenic trip in Norway.  The tour includes the highest railway in Northern Europe, with Finse being the highest station in the Norwegian railway system at 4009 feet.  You will take one of the world’s steepest railways (the Flåm railway), dropping 2800 feet in just 12 miles.  You will also drive a portion of the Lærdal Tunnel, the longest road tunnel in the world at 15.23 miles long.  We will end the day at Stegastein, a unique observation platform offering dramatic views of Aurlandsfjord, 2130 feet above the fjord.

Day 5 – First thing in the morning, we will pack our bags and take a scenic boat ride though Nærøyfjord, a UNESCO world heritage site and the inspiration for Disney’s hit movie “Frozen”.  Once we finish the boat ride, we will drive Norway’s steepest road (Stalheimskleiva) with 13 hairpin bends and an 18% gradient.  On the way to Voss, we will see the beautiful Tvindefossen waterfalls.  We will take a scenic train ride from Voss to Bergen.  You will have some free time in Bergen to see the port and take the funicular (mountain cable car) to the top of Mount Floyen to get the best views of Bergen town.  Spend some time at the fish market and do some shopping along the Bryggen wharf.  You will have free time in the evening in Bergen.

Day 6 – We will make our way towards our hotel in Odda, enjoying the scenery along the way.  We will take a break to get up close to Steinsdalsfossen.  There is a short path that takes you behind the falls.  We will then head over to Vøringfossen, one of Norway’s most photographed natural sites.  We will spend some time at the falls and the visitor’s center.  We continue our day on a spectacular drive along a road that follows the second longest fjord in Norway – Hardangerfjord.  We will end our day in Odda, a little town that overlooks Hardangerfjord.

Day 7 –  We will continue to explore the Norwegian fjords.  We will visit Låtefossen waterfall, the gorgeous Suldalsvatnet lake, and Røldal Stave Church, which dates back to 1250.  You will be amazed at how beautiful the country of Norway is.

Day 8 –  Today you will have the opportunity to hike Preikestolen (Preacher’s Chair, Pulpit Rock).  Preikestolen is a steep cliff which rises 1,982 ft above Lysefjorden. Atop the cliff, there is an almost flat top of approximately 82 ft × 82 ft.  It is the filming location of the final flight scene in Mission Impossible: Fallout.  If you want to opt out on the 4 hour hike, you can relax and take in the scenery at Revsvatnet lake nearby, take a helicopter ride over Preikestolen and the fjord, take a boat ride out of Stavanger or simply enjoy exploring the town of Stavanger.

Day 9 –  Flight Stavanger-Copenhagen am; Copenhagen,

This morning, we will take a flight from Stavanger to the Danish capital of Copenhagen.  Once we get checked into our hotel, you will have time to explore the magnificent city of Copenhagen.  We recommend the boat tour, which will take you to the main points of interest where you can see what the city has to offer in a short time.  You won’t want to miss Vor Frelsers Kirke, Amalienborg Royal Palace, Little Mermaid, Rosenborg Castle, and one of the longest pedestrian, car free shopping areas in Europe.  This popular tourist attraction is in the center of the old town and is the perfect place to grab a danish in Denmark.  We will also visit Vor Frue Kirke, home to the Christus statue by Danish sculptor Bertel Thorvaldsen who was commissioned to decorate the interior of the church with statues of Jesus Christ and the apostles.

Day 10 –  Today you will have free time to see more of the sights in Copenhagen.  We will have an optional tour to the stunning Frederiksborg Castle.  The castle is a palatial complex in Hillerød, Denmark around an hour outside of Copenhagen. It was built as a royal residence for King Christian IV of Denmark-Norway in the early 17th century.  You will have the chance to tour the grounds.  Inside the castle (in King’s Chapel), you will find original paintings from Danish artist, Carl Bloch.  He was commissioned to produce 23 paintings for the Chapel including scenes from the life of Christ. The originals (painted between 1865 and 1879), have become very popular as illustrations.

Day 11 –  This morning, we will take a 5 hour scenic train ride from Copenhagen, Denmark to Stockholm, Sweden.  As we depart Copenhagen will cross the famous Öresund.  The Öresund is a combined railway and motorway bridge across the Öresund strait between Sweden and Denmark. The bridge runs as a tunnel from Copenhagen city to the artificial island Peberholm in the middle of the strait.  From Peberholm, it continues as a bridge to the Swedish coast.  You will be able to see the beautiful Swedish countryside with it’s farms and lakes.  Once we arrive in Stockholm, we will check in and you will have the rest of the day to tour the city, including the Royal Palace, Old Town Stockholm, Stortorget, Museums (Vasa/ABBA), Subway Art, Cathedrals, Monteliusvagen

Day 12 – We will enjoy a swedish breakfast and then head on the 20 minute train which will drop us right off at the airport.  We will spend the rest of the day returning to the USA
